IHG Hotels & Resorts is accelerating its expansion
in Egypt with the signing of two new Holiday Inn properties in Aswan. The
agreements, concluded with Misr Holanda and Avenue for Development, introduce
the brand to one of the country’s most culturally significant tourism
destinations and add a total of 400 rooms to IHG’s growing portfolio.
The move reflects a broader strategy to strengthen
IHG’s presence in high-demand leisure markets while responding to rising
interest in destinations that combine heritage, nature and accessibility.
Aswan, located along the Nile and known for its archaeological landmarks and
Nubian culture, continues to attract both domestic and international travelers.
Two projects targeting different travel segments
Holiday Inn Aswan is planned as a 200-room hotel close
to the city center and major attractions. Designed to appeal to a wide range of
travelers, the property will offer three dining outlets and flexible meeting
facilities across five venues. Opening is scheduled for 2029.
A second development, Holiday Inn Resort New Aswan,
will also feature 200 rooms and is set to open in 2030 in the emerging New
Aswan district. Positioned as a resort-style offering, the property aims to
cater to guests seeking a more relaxed stay within a destination defined by
natural landscapes and cultural depth.
Strategic growth in a key tourism market
“Egypt remains a priority growth market for IHG in the
region,” said Haitham Mattar, Managing Director, India, Middle East &
Africa at IHG Hotels & Resorts. “These signings allow us to meet the
growing demand for high-quality branded accommodation while strengthening our
long-term presence in the country.”
Dr. Eng. Ibrahim Sadek, CEO of Misr Holanda for
Tourism and Hotel Investment and Avenue for Development, emphasized the
strategic importance of the partnership. “Our collaboration with IHG reflects
our confidence in their strong brand portfolio and operational expertise. We
see significant potential in Aswan as the destination continues to develop.”
Expanding portfolio and long-term commitment
IHG currently operates ten hotels in Egypt across
brands including InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, voco, Holiday Inn and
Staybridge Suites. The company’s development pipeline includes 23 additional
hotels, underlining its long-term commitment to the country’s hospitality
sector.
With the addition of two Holiday Inn properties in
Aswan, IHG continues to position itself in destinations that offer a blend of
cultural heritage, natural beauty and growing tourism demand.
