The Lufthansa Group has entered into a strategic
partnership with travel technology provider Amadeus aimed at fundamentally
simplifying how passengers book, manage and modify their flights. Central to
the cooperation is the introduction of a new “Order ID”, which will gradually
replace traditional booking and ticket numbers.
The Order ID brings together all components of a
journey in a single digital reference. Flight details, seat reservations,
baggage, as well as additional services such as upgrades or lounge access, are
consolidated into one overview. This replaces previously separate systems and
is designed to give passengers a clearer, more transparent picture of their
entire trip.
“The Lufthansa Group is a pioneer in modern airline
retailing,” said Tamur Goudarzi Pour, Executive Vice President Strategy at the
Lufthansa Group. “We are excited to partner with Amadeus to advance the
development and implementation of innovative order technology and to further
improve the travel experience for our customers.”
Faster rebooking and clearer information
By standardising booking data under a single Order ID,
the Lufthansa Group aims to make changes and rebookings significantly faster
and more intuitive. Passengers will be able to adjust their travel plans or add
services with just a few clicks. This is particularly relevant in the event of
flight schedule changes or irregularities, when travellers can be offered
alternative solutions and relevant information quickly and efficiently.
The new technological foundation also enhances
transparency. In future, passengers will be able to see more clearly which
services are already included in their booking and which additional options are
available.
Gradual rollout across the Lufthansa Group
The Order ID will be introduced step by step across
several airlines within the Lufthansa Group. It will complement existing
digital services such as Travel ID, which will continue to manage and display
personal customer profiles.
With the partnership, Lufthansa Group and Amadeus are
positioning the Order ID as a key building block for the next generation of
airline retailing, combining simplified processes with improved customer
service and greater clarity throughout the travel journey.
