As the world’s first airline to do so, Eurowings is now offering couples the opportunity to get married on scheduled flights. Against the backdrop of a historic low in marriage rates in Germany – the fewest couples since 1950 have tied the knot in a single year – the country’s largest leisure airline is taking a bold step to celebrate love and help revitalise weddings.
What has long been possible on cruise ships at sea is now taking to the skies: Eurowings allows couples to exchange vows officially above the clouds during a flight. Those wishing to take part in this unique service must register in advance. Marriage applications should be submitted approximately eight weeks before the desired flight date to allow operational planning and crew scheduling.
Ceremonies are available on flights with a minimum duration of 120 minutes. Subject to operational approval, the so-called “Marriage Package” can be added for €199.99. In addition to the official captain-led ceremony, the package includes a piccolo of champagne for the toast as well as a sweet surprise for the newlyweds. Selected Eurowings captains have been specially trained and certified – similar to maritime captains – to conduct weddings on board. The ceremony can take place publicly via the aircraft’s announcement system or in a more private setting in the rear of the cabin.
Honeymoon included with Eurowings Holidays
Complementing the new offering, Eurowings Holidays has expanded its portfolio with a comprehensive all-inclusive wedding package. This combines the in-flight ceremony with a two-week honeymoon stay at selected five-star hotels, for example in Mallorca or Mauritius. Following the ceremony at cruising altitude, newlyweds enjoy their honeymoon in specially appointed wedding suites with all-inclusive catering and optional additional services. The individual arrangement is finalised after booking in close coordination with the Eurowings Holidays service team. Further details on the “Marriage Package” can be found here.
