Eurowings
has been awarded the coveted four-star seal of approval by Skytrax, the British
consultancy specializing in aviation. The German airline is thus increasingly
setting itself apart from competitors in the low-cost airline market segment
such as Ryanair and Wizz Air, which each have a three-star rating from Skytrax.
For Eurowings, the award is the most visible evidence to date of its successful
reorientation from a former regional low-cost carrier to a value airline for
Europe.
The
second largest German airline after Lufthansa has not only invested massively
in the renewal of its Airbus fleet (including the purchase of 13 brand-new
A320neo and A321neo with a volume of 1.5 billion dollars), but has also
consistently improved products and services on board and on the ground: lounge
access for business and status customers, award miles with Europe's largest
loyalty program Miles & More, the free middle seat starting at ten euros or
flexible rebooking options up to 40 minutes before departure are now unique
selling points in the Eurowings market segment. The company's successful
economic turnaround is fueling further investment in products and services.
Eurowings
CEO Jens Bischof: “Eurowings stands for low-cost flying with more ease, but
also for reliability and high-quality services. The four-star rating from
Skytrax reflects what we have been seeing for some time in numerous statistics
and customer satisfaction surveys. Our crews on board and our teams on the
ground work passionately to make the difference and win over more and more
guests for Eurowings. They have more than earned this award.”
The
Skytrax testers travel with a customer’s perspective. For their judgement, they
evaluate the service of the respective airline comprehensively: in up to 800
areas on the ground and in the air. This includes in-flight service, seating
comfort, catering, security measures, in-flight entertainment, duty-free offers
and other services.
A
decisive aspect for the award of the fourth star is the pronounced awareness
and behavior of the Eurowings crews when it comes to service. According to the
Skytrax analysis, they are “more professional, experienced and friendly in
their dealings with passengers” compared to the competition. The in-flight
product with WiFi, in-flight entertainment and digital reading portal is
mentioned as another differentiating feature. The analysis also states that
Eurowings offers a comprehensive service at airports, where the German airline
sets itself apart from the competition with self-service options for check-in
and baggage drop-off, consistent baggage checks carried out in advance and
consistent branding.
Skytrax
has been surveying passengers on the quality of airlines and airports since the
1990s. Of a total of 74 airlines worldwide in the low-cost segment, to which
Eurowings is assigned by Skytrax, only 14 have received the coveted four-star
award.
