Condor has launched a new daily connection from Frankfurt to Bangkok via Abu Dhabi, expanding its winter flight programme to Thailand and strengthening its cooperation with Etihad Airways. The inaugural flight departed Frankfurt with a ceremonial send-off, marking the introduction of an additional routing to one of Southeast Asia's most important tourism destinations.
The new service complements Condor's existing nonstop flights between Frankfurt and Bangkok. With both connections available, passengers now have two daily travel options between the German aviation hub and the Thai capital. While the direct service remains the faster choice, the routing through Abu Dhabi introduces additional flexibility and allows travellers to combine their journey with connections across Etihad Airways' international network.
The expansion is particularly relevant for the leisure travel market, where Thailand continues to attract strong demand from European holidaymakers. Bangkok serves not only as a major city destination but also as a gateway to beach resorts, cultural attractions and regional travel itineraries throughout the country. The new connection provides travel agents and tour operators with another option when arranging flights to Thailand, particularly during the winter season.
Codeshare partnership simplifies international connections
The new service operates under a codeshare agreement between Condor and Etihad Airways, allowing passengers to book connecting journeys through Abu Dhabi on a single ticket.
An important advantage for travellers is the coordination of connecting flights and baggage handling. Passengers can check their luggage through to their final destination, reducing the need for separate arrangements during the transfer.
The partnership also extends the geographical reach of Condor's network. Through Abu Dhabi, travellers can access additional destinations served by Etihad Airways across Asia, Africa and Australia.
For the German leisure airline, the arrangement offers an opportunity to expand its international connectivity without independently operating flights to every destination in the partner network.
Condor CEO Peter Gerber described the new route as an important addition to the airline's winter programme.
“With our daily service from Frankfurt to Abu Dhabi and onward to Bangkok, we are expanding our winter offering to Thailand with an additional travel option. Together with our existing nonstop service, Condor guests can now travel from Frankfurt to Bangkok twice daily,” Gerber said.
He also emphasised the importance of the partnership with Etihad Airways, which provides access to a wider range of international destinations through the Abu Dhabi hub.
Abu Dhabi strengthens its role as a connecting hub
For Etihad Airways, the new connection reinforces Abu Dhabi's position as an international transfer point between Europe and destinations farther east.
Wei Jin, Interim Chief Revenue & Commercial Officer at Etihad Airways, welcomed the launch as another step in the cooperation between the two airlines.
“By connecting our complementary networks we create more choice for customers travelling between Europe, Abu Dhabi and beyond, while Condor’s onward Bangkok service adds further connectivity between Europe and Asia,” he said.
The cooperation illustrates how airline partnerships can provide additional travel options beyond traditional nonstop services. By coordinating schedules and ticketing arrangements, carriers can offer connections across a wider network while maintaining their respective operational structures.
For travellers, the practical advantages depend on factors such as connection times, fares and the availability of suitable onward flights. The new Bangkok routing nevertheless adds another daily option for passengers departing from Frankfurt.
Additional flexibility for Thailand holidays
The introduction of the Abu Dhabi connection comes as airlines prepare for the European winter travel season, traditionally an important period for long-haul holidays to Southeast Asia.
Thailand remains a significant destination for German-speaking travellers, with demand extending beyond Bangkok to coastal resorts, islands and cultural destinations throughout the country.
For tour operators, an additional daily connection can provide greater flexibility when combining flights with hotel accommodation, domestic transfers and organised touring programmes.
The new service may also be attractive to travellers planning more complex itineraries involving several destinations, particularly where Etihad Airways offers suitable connecting flights through Abu Dhabi.
Condor operates modern Airbus A330neo aircraft on its long-haul services, offering several cabin categories, including Business Class. The airline highlights its premium onboard product as part of its strategy to compete in the international leisure travel market.
With the new Frankfurt–Abu Dhabi–Bangkok connection, Condor is broadening its Thailand offering while developing Abu Dhabi as an additional gateway to international destinations.
The combination of daily nonstop flights and a daily connecting service gives passengers more choice when planning journeys between Germany and Thailand, while the expanded codeshare cooperation creates further opportunities for travel beyond Bangkok.
