Uber has joined the Executive Committee of the World
Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), marking the company's return to the
organisation after previously serving as a Global Member between 2018 and 2021.
The move underlines Uber's growing role in the international travel sector and
its intention to contribute more actively to the future development of the
industry.
Founded in 2010, Uber has become one of the world's
largest technology platforms for mobility and delivery. The company now
operates in more than 15,000 cities across over 70 countries, connecting
millions of travellers with drivers, couriers and local businesses.
Expanding role in the travel ecosystem
Uber has become an integral part of many travel
experiences, providing transport from airports as well as mobility services
within destinations. The company is also investing in new technologies and
services, including electric vehicles, multimodal transport solutions and
partnerships designed to make urban mobility more sustainable and efficient.
Earlier this year, Uber announced a partnership with
Expedia Group that enables users in the United States to book more than 700,000
hotels directly through the Uber app. Uber One members receive ten percent back
in Uber One credits on hotel bookings, with the programme expected to expand to
additional markets.
“We are delighted to welcome Uber to WTTC’s Executive
Committee. As a global leader in mobility and technology, Uber plays a vital
role in the travel ecosystem. Their return to WTTC further strengthens our
global membership and brings valuable perspective and leadership to our work as
we shape a more connected and sustainable future for Travel & Tourism,”
said Gloria Guevara, WTTC President & CEO.
Focus on innovation and seamless travel
As a member of the Executive Committee, Uber will
contribute to WTTC's work on sustainability, innovation and the development of
more connected travel experiences.
“Travel is in Uber’s DNA. For millions of people
around the world, Uber is one of the first apps they open when they arrive in a
new city. We’re proud to join the World Travel & Tourism Council and
collaborate with industry leaders to help shape the future of travel. Together,
we can help make travel more seamless and connected, so people can spend more
time enjoying the experiences that matter,” said Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of
Uber.
Through its expanded role within WTTC, Uber will help
shape the organisation's global agenda while supporting initiatives aimed at
improving mobility and strengthening the future of international travel.
