Spain promotes industrial investment opportunities during official visit to Mexico

Spain’s Secretary of State for Industry, Jordi García Brustenga, has concluded an official visit to Mexico aimed at strengthening economic and trade relations between the two countries. Accompanying First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Trade and Business Carlos Cuerpo, García Brustenga used the trip to underline the strategic importance of Mexico as a key destination for Spanish investment and a priority market for international business expansion.

The visit also highlighted Mexico’s growing role as a major production and trade hub, supported by extensive access to international markets through its network of trade agreements.

Investment opportunities in strategic sectors

During the Spain-Mexico Business Forum, organised by ICEX, the Spanish Confederation of Business Organisations (CEOE) and the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, participants discussed investment and cooperation opportunities across a range of strategic sectors.

Key areas identified included infrastructure, water technologies, clean energy, circular economy initiatives and logistics. The meetings brought together representatives from government and industry to explore new avenues for bilateral collaboration and business development.

Industry seen as a driver of growth and innovation

Throughout the visit, García Brustenga stressed the importance of industry as a cornerstone of economic growth, innovation and high-quality employment.

He highlighted the sector’s ability to generate wider economic benefits and argued that the twin green and digital transitions should be viewed as an opportunity to strengthen competitiveness and accelerate the development of a more innovative, productive and sustainable industrial model.

The Secretary of State also emphasised the importance of public-private cooperation and the need to maintain a stable investment climate capable of supporting high-value industrial projects.

Strengthening dialogue with the business community

As part of the programme, García Brustenga attended the Assembly of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, where he met with representatives of the business community to discuss opportunities for bilateral cooperation and ways to further strengthen the presence of Spanish companies in Mexico.

The gathering provided a platform for dialogue with key stakeholders from the Mexican economy and helped identify potential joint projects in strategic sectors.

Visit to automotive supplier CIE Nugar Tultitlán

The Secretary of State also visited the CIE Nugar Tultitlán plant in the State of Mexico, a major manufacturing facility specialising in components for the automotive industry.

The plant is part of CIE Automotive, the Spanish industrial group focused on the design, development and production of components for leading vehicle manufacturers worldwide.

During the visit, García Brustenga reviewed the company’s technological and production capabilities and its contribution to Mexico’s automotive value chain. He also highlighted the role of such investments as examples of successful Spanish industrial expansion abroad, supporting job creation, technology transfer and the strengthening of global supply chains.
