Ryanair has entered into a five-year partnership with
Google Cloud that will see the airline expand its use of cloud-based data,
collaboration and artificial intelligence tools across its European network.
Under the agreement, Google Workspace and Google Cloud
services will be deployed to around 35,000 Ryanair employees. The technology
rollout forms part of the airline’s wider growth strategy, which targets 300
million passengers annually by 2034.
Gemini Enterprise to support operations
A central element of the partnership is the
introduction of Gemini Enterprise, Google Cloud’s agentic AI platform. Ryanair
plans to use the technology to connect internal data, automate workflows and
develop custom AI agents for operational and corporate tasks.
Potential applications include automated
decision-making, optimisation of flight crew logistics and broader productivity
improvements across the business.
The airline also sees the partnership as an important
element of a new dual-cloud strategy designed to improve the resilience of its
technology infrastructure.
Dual-cloud strategy supports expansion
Ryanair CEO Eddie Wilson said the airline’s technology
systems would need to keep pace with its planned expansion.
“Ryanair is on an incredible growth journey to 300
million passengers by 2034. To support this growth, we need to ensure we have
excellent infrastructure resilience, and our new dual-cloud strategy provides
this, alongside technology partners that match our speed and relentless focus
on efficiency.”
He added that the deployment of Gemini Enterprise and
Google Workspace should help improve efficiency while strengthening
infrastructure resilience.
Google sees aviation as a major AI use case
For Google Cloud, the agreement represents a
large-scale deployment of generative AI and collaboration tools in an
operationally complex industry.
“Aviation is an industry defined by precision, and
Ryanair is a pioneer in operational execution,” said Maureen Costello, Google
Cloud Vice President for the UK, Ireland and Sub-Saharan Africa.
“We are thrilled to be Ryanair’s AI transformation
partner. This agreement demonstrates how deploying generative AI at scale –
coupled with modern collaboration tools for frontline workers – can help
industry leaders scale securely, reduce operational costs, and redefine the
travel experience.”
Technology becomes part of Ryanair’s growth plan
The new partnership brings cloud infrastructure, AI
and employee collaboration tools together under a single long-term agreement.
For Ryanair, the objective is not only to automate
selected processes, but also to create a more resilient technology environment
capable of supporting a larger passenger network and increasingly data-driven
operations over the coming years.
