MSC Group’s Cruise Division has announced the
development of Sandy Cay, a new luxury private island destination in the
Bahamas. Located next to the existing Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, the island
is expected to open in 2028 and will be accessible to guests of MSC Cruises and
Explora Journeys. The project aims to expand the company’s portfolio of
exclusive island experiences while deepening the connection between cruise
travel and nature-based destinations.
Sandy Cay is designed as a more secluded complement to
Ocean Cay, offering travelers a quieter and more intimate setting shaped by the
natural beauty of the Bahamian environment.
A secluded island retreat inspired by the Bahamas
The island takes its name from the pristine aragonite
sands that characterize its beaches, known for being among the brightest and
purest in the world. These natural features form the foundation of a
destination designed around serenity, immersion in nature and a slower island
rhythm.
Sandy Cay will share the same crystal-clear waters as
Ocean Cay but will offer a different atmosphere focused on privacy, tranquility
and a closer connection to the ocean environment. The concept builds on the
philosophy that already defines Ocean Cay: creating experiences that allow
guests to engage with the natural landscape of the Bahamas.
MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys passengers are
expected to experience the new destination for the first time when it opens in
2028.
Enhancements planned for Ocean Cay Marine Reserve
Alongside the announcement of Sandy Cay, MSC Cruises
has also revealed plans to further enhance the Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve.
New facilities and experiences are being developed to enrich the guest
experience on the island.
Planned improvements include additional dining venues,
new beach concepts tailored to both families and adults, expanded relaxation
areas and new opportunities for visitors to learn about marine conservation
through interactive activities.
These developments are part of MSC Group’s broader
strategy to continuously evolve its private island destinations while
preserving the natural beauty and ecological value of the Bahamian environment.
Expanding the cruise experience beyond the ship
With the addition of Sandy Cay, MSC Cruises and
Explora Journeys aim to strengthen the connection between experiences at sea
and on shore. Together, Ocean Cay and Sandy Cay are intended to represent the
next stage in the company’s vision of creating distinctive holiday destinations
that combine relaxation, discovery and environmental awareness.
