The Lufthansa Group is expanding its Japan network for
Summer 2027, with its hub airlines offering up to 50 flights per week to four
Japanese destinations. The additional capacity includes the return of
Lufthansa’s Frankfurt–Nagoya route, a new daily seasonal service between
Frankfurt and Tokyo Narita and increased frequencies from Zurich with SWISS.
The flights are already available for booking.
Lufthansa will resume direct services between
Frankfurt and Nagoya on March 29, 2027, operating three times a week on
Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Flight LH736 will leave Frankfurt at 2:10
p.m. and arrive in Nagoya at 9:35 a.m. the following day. The return service
LH737 is scheduled to depart Nagoya at 11:30 a.m. and reach Frankfurt at 6:30
p.m.
One day earlier, on March 28, Lufthansa will introduce
a daily Frankfurt–Tokyo Narita service for the summer season. This complements
the airline’s existing daily flights from Frankfurt and Munich to Tokyo Haneda
and considerably broadens the choice of connections between Germany and the
Japanese capital. Both the Nagoya and Narita routes will be operated with
Boeing 787-9 aircraft featuring Lufthansa’s Allegris cabin.
Nagoya returns to the network
The return to Nagoya restores a direct link with one
of Japan’s most important industrial regions. Aichi Prefecture is at the heart
of the country’s automotive and manufacturing sectors, giving the route a
strong corporate travel component. At the same time, Nagoya provides access to
central Japan and destinations including Kyoto.
The schedule is designed to connect Nagoya with
Lufthansa’s wider network at Frankfurt. Passengers arriving from Japan will
have onward options across Europe as well as connections to South America.
Tokyo Narita will receive a substantially higher
frequency. Flight LH710 is scheduled to depart Frankfurt daily at 1:45 p.m.,
arriving at Narita at 9:30 a.m. the following morning. The return flight LH711
leaves Japan at 11:20 a.m. and arrives in Frankfurt at 6:40 p.m.
The Boeing 787-9 aircraft planned for both routes will
offer 28 Business Class seats, 28 in Premium Economy and 231 in Economy.
“Japan is a key market for the Lufthansa Group, and we
are pleased to further strengthen our presence with additional capacity and the
resumption of flights to Nagoya,” said Dieter Vranckx, Member of the Executive
Board and Chief Commercial Officer of Lufthansa Group. He added that the
expansion would provide more travel options while supporting the
diversification of the group’s intercontinental network.
SWISS adds Tokyo capacity
The expansion extends beyond Lufthansa itself. SWISS
plans to operate up to seven weekly flights between Zurich and Tokyo Narita
during Summer 2027. Together, Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, SWISS and ITA
Airways will offer up to 50 weekly services to Tokyo Haneda, Tokyo Narita,
Osaka and Nagoya.
Additional connections within Japan and beyond will be
available through the Lufthansa Group’s joint venture with ANA. This broadens
the network beyond the four Japanese airports served directly by the European
group airlines and gives connecting passengers access to ANA’s domestic
network.
The capacity increase reflects stronger demand for
travel between Europe and Japan and gives the Lufthansa Group a considerably
broader presence in the market for Summer 2027. With two Tokyo airports in the
schedule and Nagoya returning to the network, the expansion strengthens both
leisure connections and links to some of Japan’s most important business
regions.
