Japanese street food is moving onto hotel menus across Indonesia. Archipelago Hotels has launched “60 Seconds to Tokyo” at more than 130 properties, with dishes ranging from chicken katsu and takoyaki to matcha desserts and hojicha drinks. The campaign runs from July 1 to December 31, 2026, and is open to hotel guests as well as local visitors.

The initiative follows the group's previous “60 Seconds to Seoul” campaign and forms part of the Archipelago Global Flavours Series. Every six months, the programme focuses on a different international destination and adapts its street-food culture for restaurants at Archipelago properties in Indonesia.

From chicken katsu to matcha and kuromitsu

Three creations form the centrepiece of the Tokyo edition. Menchi Chicken Katsu combines a crispy exterior with a juicy chicken filling, while Sakura Sunset is a refreshing drink with floral notes. Kuromitsu Matcha Puff pairs the earthy flavour of Japanese green tea with the sweetness of kuromitsu syrup.

The wider menu includes Chicken Kamikaze, Chicken Katsu Sando, Takoyaki, Wagyu Burger, Hambagu and Yakimeshi Fried Rice. Grilled Chicken Breast with Koji Sauce and Prawn Tempura Nori Taco add further interpretations of Japanese flavours.

Dessert options include Japanese Cotton Cheese, while the drinks selection features Shizuku Matcha Cooler, Shiso-Basil Berry and Hojicha Latte.

Six hotel brands take part across Indonesia

The campaign is being offered at participating properties belonging to six Archipelago brands: Aston, Alana, Harper, Quest, Hotel Neo and fave.

The dishes are not restricted to conventional hotel restaurant service. Depending on the property, customers can order them in restaurants, by the pool, through room service or via online delivery services. This means the campaign is also designed to reach Indonesians who are not staying at one of the hotels.

“Through 60 Seconds to Tokyo, we are bringing an authentic Japanese culinary experience that remains approachable and easy to enjoy for guests across Indonesia,” says John Flood, CEO of Archipelago Hotels.

Tokyo follows successful Seoul campaign

The concept builds on “60 Seconds to Seoul”, the previous instalment of the Global Flavours Series. That campaign received the Marketeers OMNI Brands of the Year 2026 award in the Hospitality Engagement Campaign category.

“Following the success of Archipelago Global Flavours Series: 60 Seconds to Seoul, which received the Marketeers OMNI Brands of the Year 2026 award in the Hospitality Engagement Campaign category, we are very excited to introduce Tokyo as our next culinary destination,” Flood says.

The company has also created two fictional characters for the campaign. Ren, who has Indonesian-Japanese roots, and Reina, a Japanese woman living in Indonesia, are intended to represent the culinary connection between the two countries.

Japanese food as a journey without travelling

The six-month programme reflects the growing role of food as part of the hotel experience beyond accommodation itself. Instead of reproducing a formal Japanese restaurant concept, “60 Seconds to Tokyo” focuses primarily on accessible dishes inspired by Tokyo's casual food culture.

With more than 130 participating hotels spread across Indonesia, the campaign gives the concept a national reach. Until December 31, guests and local customers can sample the Japanese-inspired menu without leaving Indonesia – before the Global Flavours Series moves on to its next culinary destination.
