Hilton has introduced a new digital payment feature that allows members of its Hilton Honors loyalty programme to use accumulated points towards eligible expenses incurred during their hotel stay. Called Pay with Points, the service is integrated into the Hilton Honors app and enables guests to settle qualifying charges without visiting the front desk.
Initially available at 150 participating hotels in the United States, the feature is open to Hilton Honors members holding Silver, Gold, Diamond or Diamond Reserve status. During digital checkout, eligible guests can review their hotel bill, select available redemption options and apply loyalty points towards qualifying charges. Hilton describes the introduction as the first fully digital checkout solution of its kind offered by a major hotel group.
The launch forms part of Hilton's broader investment in mobile guest services and reflects changing expectations surrounding hotel loyalty programmes. According to research conducted among Hilton Honors members, 70 percent of respondents expressed interest in using points for purchases made during their stay. Approximately half indicated that such flexibility could increase their likelihood of booking or staying with Hilton.
Expanding the role of loyalty points
Traditionally, hotel loyalty points have primarily been associated with complimentary room nights, upgrades and exclusive experiences. Hilton's latest initiative extends their practical application to expenses recorded on a guest's hotel account, providing an additional redemption option within the existing loyalty programme.
The process is designed to be completed entirely through the Hilton Honors app. Members can access their hotel bill during digital checkout, review the available redemption choices and decide whether to apply points towards eligible charges. Unlike payment arrangements requiring assistance from reception staff, the new functionality can be used directly by guests, including while they are away from the front desk.
“Loyalty is personal, and every Point a member earns represents a choice they made to stay with us,” said Brad Anderson, Vice President, Hilton Honors Program.
The initiative builds on Hilton's existing digital services, including mobile check-in, Digital Key and Choose Your Room. Together, these features are intended to give guests greater control over different stages of their stay, from selecting accommodation before arrival to managing expenses at departure.
Rollout to more than 6,000 hotels
Hilton is introducing Pay with Points gradually, beginning with 150 participating properties across the United States. The company expects the service to become available at more than 800 hotels by the end of 2026.
A broader rollout is scheduled for early 2027, when Hilton plans to extend the feature to more than 6,000 participating properties in the United States and Canada. The expansion will substantially increase the number of hotels where eligible members can redeem points against their bills through the app.
Availability and redemption options will depend on the individual property. Hilton has not announced a timetable for introducing the service in other international markets.
For the hospitality industry, the development illustrates how loyalty programmes are becoming more closely integrated with digital hotel operations. By allowing guests to decide how to use their points during checkout, Hilton is adding another practical benefit to membership while reducing the need for routine interactions at reception.
