Emirates expands flexibility with free date changes and lower refund fees - Get updated on what's happening in tourism!

Emirates has introduced a series of measures aimed at giving passengers greater flexibility when booking and changing their journeys. The changes range from unlimited free date changes for flights to Dubai to substantially reduced refund fees and additional benefits for members of the Emirates Skywards loyalty programme.

The airline is also highlighting its Comprehensive Travel Cover, which includes protection against a range of disruptions, including certain consequences of conflicts and airspace closures. Several of the measures apply across the Emirates network, while others are specifically designed to encourage travel to Dubai.

Unlimited free date changes for Dubai flights

Since August 10, 2026, passengers travelling to Dubai can change their travel dates as often as necessary without paying a change fee across a broad range of fare categories.

In Economy Class, the policy covers Saver through Flex fares. Business Class passengers receive the same flexibility on Special, Saver and Flex fares. Economy Flex Plus, Premium Economy, Business Flex Plus and First Class fares remain fully flexible.

The new policy means passengers with less expensive fares can postpone or reschedule a Dubai trip repeatedly without incurring the usual date-change fees, subject to the applicable fare conditions.

Refund fees cut to as little as $25

Emirates has also reduced cancellation charges for flights to Dubai.

Economy Saver tickets can now be refunded for a fee of $50, while the charge for Economy Flex fares is $25. In Business Class, refunds cost $50 for Special and Saver fares and $25 for Flex tickets.

Combined with unlimited free date changes, the new conditions give passengers the option of either postponing a journey or cancelling it at a comparatively low additional cost.

One free date change across the Emirates network

Passengers travelling elsewhere on the Emirates network also receive additional flexibility. Tickets booked since April 2, 2026 include one free date change, including itineraries connecting through Dubai.

Customers who are not yet ready to complete a booking can also hold the selected fare for 24 hours without charge while finalising their travel plans.

Travel insurance includes conflict-related cover

Emirates is additionally promoting its Comprehensive Travel Cover, an insurance product available in 27 countries. Among its features is conflict-related protection providing reimbursement of medical expenses of up to $25,000 and a free extension of a trip for up to 30 days.

According to Emirates, this element of the cover is not restricted by government travel advice.

The insurance also covers scenarios including trip cancellation, delayed or lost baggage, worldwide medical expenses and emergency evacuation. It can be purchased during the initial booking process or subsequently added to an existing reservation.

When Emirates flights are disrupted, the airline says it provides accommodation directly to affected passengers where necessary. If connecting flights operated by other airlines are affected, or Emirates services are unavailable, passengers can be rebooked to their destination without additional cost, including in cases involving airspace disruption.

Skywards lowers thresholds for elite status

Emirates Skywards members can benefit from additional temporary incentives until August 31, 2026.

The number of Tier Miles required to reach Silver, Gold and Platinum status has been reduced by 20 per cent. Members also receive 20 per cent bonus Tier Miles when flying with Emirates or flydubai.

The airline has also temporarily doubled the value offered through Cash+Miles. Until the end of August, 2,000 Miles are worth $30 rather than the usual $15 when used towards Emirates or flydubai flights and selected extras such as excess baggage, lounge access and seat selection.

Taken together, the measures give Emirates passengers more options to change, cancel or protect their journeys while the airline uses greater booking flexibility and loyalty incentives to support demand across its network.
