Delta Air Lines has returned to the Hong Kong market
with the launch of a new daily nonstop service between Hong Kong and Los
Angeles. The route reconnects one of Asia’s most important aviation markets
with Delta’s primary West Coast gateway and marks another step in the airline’s
expansion across the Asia-Pacific region.
The inaugural flight from Los Angeles arrived at Hong
Kong International Airport on 8 June and was welcomed with a traditional water
cannon salute. The first outbound flight from Hong Kong departed the same
morning following a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by representatives from
Delta, the U.S. Consulate General, Hong Kong International Airport and the Los
Angeles Tourism & Convention Board.
New route expands transpacific connectivity
The new service provides travellers with access to
more than 30 onward one-stop connections through Los Angeles to destinations
across the United States and beyond.
“This service marks another step in Delta’s long-term
growth across Asia-Pacific, as we expand our network to further serve the
evolving needs of our customers,” said Jeff Moomaw, Delta’s Vice President Asia
Pacific. “We’re thankful for our partners in Hong Kong and for our customers
who choose Delta, and we’re proud to offer an elevated, premium experience
throughout their journey.”
The route is operated daily using Delta’s Airbus
A350-900 aircraft, offering four cabin products: Delta One Suites, Delta
Premium Select, Delta Comfort and Delta Main.
Premium experience at the centre of the offering
Passengers travelling in Delta One Suites benefit from
lie-flat seats with privacy doors, premium bedding and chef-curated dining.
Delta Premium Select offers wider seats, greater recline and enhanced amenities
designed for long-haul comfort.
A key element of the premium experience is access to
Delta’s new Delta One Lounge at Los Angeles International Airport. The facility
features nearly 200 seats, a rotating chef-curated menu, a year-round sushi
bar, wellness facilities including full-body massage chairs, and dedicated
concierge-style services from check-in to departure.
Cargo network gains strategic connection
Beyond passenger traffic, the new route strengthens
Delta Cargo’s transpacific operations by creating a direct air freight link
between Hong Kong and the United States.
As the world’s largest air cargo hub, Hong Kong plays
a crucial role in global supply chains, making the route strategically
important for both freight and passenger transport.
Los Angeles remains a key international gateway
The new service further strengthens Delta’s position
at Los Angeles International Airport, where the airline operates more than 150
peak-day departures to over 50 destinations worldwide.
The launch also builds on Delta’s ongoing investment
in Los Angeles, including its US$2.3 billion airport transformation programme.
The project features the Delta Sky Way and the modernised Terminal 3 complex,
offering enhanced passenger facilities, expanded security screening and an
award-winning Delta Sky Club.
With Los Angeles preparing to host the 2028 Olympic
and Paralympic Games, the new Hong Kong service is expected to further support
business, leisure and international event travel in the years ahead.
Daily schedule between Hong Kong and Los Angeles
The new service operates daily in both directions.
Flight DL88 departs Hong Kong at 9:25 a.m. and arrives in Los Angeles at 7:55
a.m. local time. Flight DL89 departs Los Angeles at 11:05 p.m. and arrives in
Hong Kong at 5:05 a.m. two days later, reflecting the crossing of the
International Date Line.
The route officially launched from Los Angeles on 6
June, with the first departure from Hong Kong following on 8 June.
