Delta Air Lines is expanding a series of airport services designed to reduce waiting times and simplify the passenger journey. The latest enhancements include additional international routes offering Seamless Baggage Transfer, wider availability of biometric identity verification and mobile baggage check-in, as well as dedicated Uber drop-off locations at selected US airports.
The developments are particularly relevant for international passengers connecting through the United States, where customs and security procedures can make transfers more complicated. On eligible routes, Delta's Seamless Baggage Transfer allows travelers to proceed to their connecting gate after completing the required US Customs and Border Protection and security checks, without having to collect and recheck their luggage.
According to the airline, the service can save passengers an average of up to 25 minutes. Delta is also extending digital identity services across its domestic airport network, reflecting a broader effort to make ground handling more efficient while reducing unnecessary passenger interactions. The latest expansion, announced on October 19, builds on initiatives introduced during 2025 and earlier in 2026.
More international connections without baggage recheck
Seamless Baggage Transfer is now available for passengers traveling from Sydney to Los Angeles and from Tokyo Haneda to Atlanta. Unless their baggage is selected for additional inspection, eligible connecting passengers no longer need to reclaim their checked luggage after arriving in the United States.
The expansion follows the introduction of the service in 2025 on connections from London Heathrow to Atlanta and on selected routes involving Seoul Incheon and Atlanta, developed in cooperation with Delta's joint venture partner Korean Air.
Additional participating services now include flights from Seoul Incheon to Detroit, Minneapolis, Seattle and Los Angeles, with the Los Angeles route operated by Korean Air.
For international travel distribution, the development addresses an important aspect of US connections. Although immigration, customs and security requirements remain in place, eliminating the baggage collection and recheck process can make itineraries involving a transfer at a US hub more convenient.
The service remains route-specific, and passengers should verify whether their particular itinerary qualifies.
Biometric identification expands across US airports
Delta is also extending TSA PreCheck Touchless ID, which is now available at more than 60 airports, including all of the airline's hubs.
The system uses biometric verification to confirm passenger identity at participating baggage drop-off and security checkpoints. Instead of repeatedly presenting identification documents, eligible travelers can use facial recognition technology to complete the relevant verification procedures.
Participation requires SkyMiles membership, enrollment in TSA PreCheck with a valid Known Traveler Number, and a valid passport. Customers who meet these requirements can activate Touchless ID directly through the Delta mobile app, provided their verified passport information and traveler number are stored in their profile.
The service is therefore not universally available to international passengers. Eligibility depends on the relevant TSA PreCheck requirements and the passenger's enrollment status.
Alongside biometric verification, Delta has introduced App Bag Drop across all its hubs. The service is intended to simplify baggage handling for customers who complete their check-in through the airline's mobile application before arriving at the airport.
Another digital improvement allows holders of US or Canadian permanent resident cards traveling to or through either country to scan and verify their documents directly in the app. This reduces manual data entry and can make digital check-in more convenient.
Uber partnership targets airport congestion
Beyond check-in and security, Delta is working with Uber to improve the journey from the airport entrance to the terminal.
The Delta x Uber Preferred Drop-Off service is available at New York LaGuardia and Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson airports. Travelers can select the dedicated drop-off option directly in the Uber application.
According to Delta, thousands of passengers use the service each week. The designated arrival locations are intended to reduce congestion around busy terminal entrances and make access to departure facilities more straightforward.
The various initiatives form part of Delta's wider approach to airport operations, combining airline technology, government identity verification systems and ground transportation partnerships.
For travel agents and tour operators, the changes are particularly relevant when advising customers on international connections through US airports. Seamless baggage handling may reduce the practical complexity of certain itineraries, while biometric and mobile services can improve the departure experience for passengers who meet the eligibility requirements.
The benefits nevertheless vary by airport, route and traveler status. Delta's latest developments therefore represent a gradual expansion of more automated airport processes rather than a universal replacement of conventional check-in, baggage and border procedures.
