Delta expands 2027 transatlantic network with four new routes

Delta Air Lines is expanding its transatlantic network for summer 2027 with four new routes connecting US cities to destinations in Iceland, Italy, Greece and France. The latest addition is a daily nonstop service between Boston and Reykjavík, scheduled to begin on 12 April 2027. The airline is also introducing flights from Boston to Venice, Detroit to Athens and Austin to Paris, while extending operating periods on several existing European routes.

The expansion reflects Delta's strategy of strengthening its US hubs as gateways to European leisure destinations. Boston will play a particularly important role, with Reykjavík becoming the airline's 14th distinct long-haul destination from the city during the peak summer season and its 16th international destination. As Delta's closest US hub to Europe, Boston offers connections from domestic markets across the United States to destinations on the other side of the Atlantic.

The new services also broaden travel options for European destinations seeking to attract American visitors. Italy and Greece will gain additional nonstop connections from important US metropolitan areas, while Iceland will benefit from increased accessibility from New England. Alongside the new routes, Delta is adjusting its seasonal schedules to accommodate demand beyond the traditional summer peak, particularly during spring and autumn.

Boston gains connections to Iceland and Venice

Delta's new daily Boston–Reykjavík service will operate from 12 April through 30 October 2027 using Boeing 757-200 aircraft. Passengers will be offered Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort and Delta Main cabins.

The route marks another step in Delta's long-standing relationship with Iceland. The airline introduced nonstop flights between New York-JFK and Reykjavík in June 2011, becoming the first US carrier to operate scheduled nonstop services to Iceland. The Boston connection will provide an additional gateway for travellers visiting the country's volcanic landscapes, geothermal attractions and other natural sites.

A second new route from Boston will connect the city with Venice four times a week from 7 May to 29 October 2027. Flights will use Airbus A330-300 aircraft equipped with Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort and Delta Main cabins.

Venice will become Delta's 13th distinct long-haul destination from Boston during the peak summer season and its 12th destination in continental Europe. The route will also make Boston the airline's third US gateway to Venice, with onward connections to nearly 20 destinations across the United States.

Delta is simultaneously increasing its Boston–Milan service to daily flights in 2027. Across its Italian network, the airline plans to offer up to 17 daily departures from the United States during peak periods, providing more than 30,000 nonstop seats to Italy each week.

Detroit and Austin receive new European links

From 8 June 2027, Delta will introduce three weekly nonstop flights between Detroit and Athens, operating until 28 October. The service will use Airbus A330-200 aircraft and provide connections to more than 40 destinations across the United States through Detroit.

Athens will become Delta's 12th distinct long-haul destination from Detroit during the summer peak and its seventh destination in continental Europe. Detroit will also become the airline's fourth US gateway to the Greek capital.

The route creates additional opportunities for inbound tourism to Greece, particularly from the Midwest and other US markets served through Delta's Detroit hub. It also provides a new nonstop option for travellers from southeastern Michigan.

Austin will gain its first nonstop connection to Paris on 27 March 2027. The daily summer service to Paris-Charles de Gaulle will be operated with Airbus A330-900neo aircraft.

Through Delta's partnership with Air France-KLM, passengers travelling from Austin will have one-stop access to nearly 70 destinations across Europe, India and Africa. The new route therefore serves both point-to-point demand between Texas and France and connecting traffic across the wider international network.

"Customers continue to seek more flexibility, convenience and choice when traveling to Europe, whether they are planning a spring escape, a summer vacation or a fall getaway," said Jeff Arinder, Delta's Vice President of International Network Planning.

Longer seasons support European tourism

Beyond introducing new destinations, Delta is extending several transatlantic services into earlier spring and later autumn travel periods.

Seasonal flights from Minneapolis-St. Paul and Detroit to Rome will begin in early March, followed by Seattle–Rome in April. Services from New York-JFK to Catania, Porto, Prague and Copenhagen will also resume earlier than previously scheduled.

Additional earlier resumptions are planned for Boston–Barcelona, Seattle–Barcelona and Atlanta–Edinburgh. Meanwhile, Detroit–Rome and New York-JFK–Copenhagen will operate daily when services resume. The Cincinnati–Paris route will continue three times weekly from January through March.

These adjustments are particularly relevant for European destinations seeking to distribute international visitor demand more evenly throughout the year. Earlier seasonal flights and extended operating periods can support city breaks, cultural tourism and other travel products outside the busiest summer months.

Delta's partnerships with Air France, KLM, Virgin Atlantic and other carriers further extend the reach of its transatlantic network, allowing passengers to connect to hundreds of European destinations.

For tourism businesses in Iceland, Italy, Greece, France and other European markets, the 2027 expansion represents additional opportunities to attract US visitors. The combination of new nonstop services, increased frequencies and longer operating seasons also gives tour operators and travel advisors greater flexibility when developing itineraries for the American outbound market.
