Century Cruises has released an early preview of the
Century Star, the line’s first European ship and one of the most significant
milestones in its 30-year history. The vessel will begin operating on the
Danube in autumn 2026, expanding the company’s award-winning eco-focused fleet
into new waters.
A New Flagship for Century Cruises’ Global Expansion
Following four newly built, environmentally forward
vessels in recent years, Century Cruises is extending its expertise to Europe.
The 134.99-metre Century Star offers 78 luxury cabins for 174 guests and is
designed to meet stringent EU sustainability standards, including hybrid
propulsion and a hull constructed from recycled steel. The ship embodies the
company’s ambition to achieve net-zero carbon performance across its
operations.
Design Rooted in an International Collaboration
Century Star is the result of a cross-continental
partnership, bringing together Chinese innovation and Western craftsmanship.
The hull, created by Concordia Damen Shipbuilding, introduces a contemporary
silhouette that blends naturally with the Danube’s historic landscape. Inside,
MDesigns has developed a sophisticated interior concept inspired by the river’s
cultural diversity—from the Black Forest at its source to the folklore of
Serbia.
The main restaurant draws on the atmosphere of the
Black Forest and has been recognised as a CSI Awards 2025 Finalist for Concept
of the Year. The Bar and Lounge reflect Baroque influences and the musical
traditions of Beethoven and Strauss, echoing Vienna’s famous coffee houses. The
lobby pays tribute to Bulgaria’s Rose Valley, while the cabins evoke the warmth
of a Serbian home.
Inaugural Danube Voyage in 2026
Century Star will launch with an eight-day Blue Danube
Cruise departing Budapest on 18 September 2026. The itinerary includes
Esztergom, Bratislava, Vienna, Linz and Passau, paired with immersive local
excursions supported by Century Cruises’ dedicated transportation. Onboard,
guests can expect European culinary excellence alongside familiar signatures
from the company’s chefs, as well as lectures on the Danube’s history and
wellness sessions such as Tai Chi and Yoga—an expression of the blend of Eastern
and Western influences at the heart of the brand.
Expansion to the Rhine
A second itinerary, running from Amsterdam to Basel,
is also prepared for launch. Designed to bring Century Cruises’ distinctive
combination of Eastern elegance, Western service and contemporary
sustainability to the Rhine, it offers another culturally rich journey along
one of Europe’s most storied rivers.
