The Lufthansa Group is opening the doors of its new
Hangar One visitor and conference centre at Frankfurt Airport on 1 August.
Following a series of inaugural events in recent weeks, the 6,000-square-metre
venue will now welcome the public on a regular basis, offering an interactive
journey through a century of aviation and Lufthansa history.
Located directly off the A3 motorway at Frankfurt
Airport, Hangar One combines exhibition space, conference facilities,
hospitality and exclusive aviation experiences under one roof.
Interactive exhibition explores 100 years of aviation
Visitors can explore an immersive exhibition that
traces the evolution of aviation and the Lufthansa Group, from its early years
to its current airline brands, technical operations and logistics businesses,
while also examining future developments in the industry.
Developed in collaboration with Atelier Brückner, the
exhibition features numerous historical artefacts, many of which are being
displayed publicly for the first time. It also addresses one of the most
challenging chapters of the company's past by examining Lufthansa's role and
responsibility during the National Socialist era.
Additional content is available through QR-code-based
audio guides accessible on visitors' own smartphones. A dedicated children's
audio guide presents the exhibition in easy-to-understand language.
Historic aircraft take centre stage
The exhibition is built around two iconic aircraft
representing different eras of Lufthansa's history.
The Junkers Ju 52 D-AQUI recalls the pioneering years
of the original Lufthansa, while the Lockheed Super Star D-ALAN symbolises the
airline's post-war relaunch during the 1950s.
Visitors are expected to be able to explore the
interior of the Super Star from the end of the year. The Ju 52 cabin will also
be accessible during selected special events.
Opening day features exclusive activities
To celebrate the official opening on 1 August, Hangar
One will offer a range of special attractions, including promotional offers at
the Worldshop, photo opportunities with Lufthansa mascot Lu and flight
simulator sessions, subject to availability.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to watch the
Lufthansa anniversary documentary We are the Journey, which will be screened
exclusively on opening day before becoming available on Lufthansa's long-haul
inflight entertainment system from 1 September.
Admission on opening day is available to guests who
have purchased tickets in advance.
Conference venue with aviation atmosphere
Beyond the exhibition, Hangar One features the
Follow-me Bar, a café and a shop offering exclusive aviation-themed products,
including limited-edition collectibles inspired by the Ju 52 and Super Star.
The venue also serves as an event location, offering
seven meeting rooms and a variety of spaces for corporate and private
functions. From 2027, the bar inside the Lockheed Super Star is expected to
become available for exclusive event bookings.
A further highlight is a flight simulator built around
the original cockpit of a Diamond DA42 training aircraft, allowing visitors to
experience realistic flight operations.
Hangar One will be open on Thursdays and Fridays from
8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., subject
to exclusive event bookings.
