Thailand is creating a new bridge between its
technology sector and tourism industry. The Tourism Authority of Thailand has
launched the Amazing Thailand Innovation Gadget platform, designed to help Thai
travel tech startups bring their products and services into practical use and
connect with potential customers and business partners.
The initiative was presented at the “Amazing Thailand
Innovation Gadget & Travel Tech Networking” event, organised by TAT in
cooperation with Thailand’s National Innovation Agency. More than 100
representatives from startups, government agencies and private-sector
organisations attended the networking programme.
From startup development to commercial use
Amazing Thailand Innovation Gadget brings together
information on technologies and solutions developed for tourism while providing
entrepreneurs with a channel to reach companies and other potential users.
The platform builds on the existing TAT Travel Tech
Startup programme. While that initiative supports the development of young
technology companies, the new platform is intended to take the next step by
facilitating testing, adoption and commercial applications within Thailand’s
tourism sector.
“Travel technology has its greatest value when
innovation moves beyond the screen and becomes part of the actual travel
experience,” said Nattaphan Threedacha, TAT Executive Director for Tourism
Investment Promotion.
“Through Amazing Thailand Innovation Gadget, TAT
creates a bridge between Thai startups’ ideas and the changing needs of
travellers and businesses, turning those ideas into real-world solutions.”
Tourism and innovation agencies join forces
The platform was formally unveiled by Nattaphan
Threedacha and Dr. Krithpaka Boonfueng, Executive Director of the National
Innovation Agency. Their cooperation is intended to give Thai travel technology
companies better access to tourism businesses, travellers and new markets.
According to TAT, creating opportunities to test and
further develop technology in real tourism environments could benefit both
travellers and Thai entrepreneurs.
The launch reflects a broader challenge facing the
travel technology sector: developing a product is only one stage of innovation,
while finding businesses willing to test and integrate it can determine whether
a startup reaches the commercial market.
More than 100 participants explore partnerships
The accompanying Travel Tech Networking session
brought together more than 100 participants to discuss possible partnerships
and business applications.
Another session, titled “When Collaboration is the New
Competitiveness”, examined how cooperation between technology providers,
tourism businesses and other organisations can generate new opportunities as
digital technology changes consumer behaviour and competition.
With Amazing Thailand Innovation Gadget, TAT is
therefore moving beyond startup promotion alone. The new platform is intended
to create a route from technology development to practical application within
one of Thailand’s most important industries.
