The Luxury Collection, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s
portfolio of more than 30 hotel brands, has announced the opening of THE AMNIS,
a Luxury Collection Hotel, Kaohsiung, marking the brand’s debut in Taiwan.
Located in the city’s emerging Asia New Bay Area, the new hotel introduces a
contemporary interpretation of The Luxury Collection’s signature destination
storytelling, inviting guests to explore Kaohsiung through its deep connection
to water, culture and art.
A gateway to Kaohsiung’s cultural waterfront
Positioned near the Kaohsiung Music Center, Exhibition
Center, Main Public Library and ALIEN Art Centre, THE AMNIS offers direct
access to the city’s cultural and waterfront landmarks. Convenient connections
to Kaohsiung Station, Sanduo Shopping District MRT Station and Kaohsiung
International Airport make the hotel well suited to both leisure and business
travelers discovering southern Taiwan.

Spacious design inspired by mountains and harbor
THE AMNIS features 147 spacious guest rooms, each
designed to evoke the tranquility of Kaohsiung’s surrounding mountains and
harbor. Starting at approximately 60 square meters, rooms feature North
American timber finishes, Angora Grey marble and floor-to-ceiling windows that
capture natural harbor light. With only six to ten rooms per floor, five-layer
soundproofing, Swedish Bolon carpets, Italian handcrafted FALOMO beds and BOSE
audio systems, the rooms offer a residential sense of privacy. Bathrooms are fitted
with Villeroy & Boch basins and GROHE fixtures, reinforcing a serene
atmosphere inspired by the restorative qualities of water. Wellness facilities
include a semi-outdoor pool, sauna, steam room and a fully equipped Technogym
fitness center.
Culinary experiences rooted in place
Dining at THE AMNIS reflects southern Taiwan’s warmth
and cultural influences. Guests are welcomed with longan blossom honey tea, a
signature gesture celebrating local flavors. The hotel also introduces the
first international outpost of Japan’s renowned UKAI Group, with Ukai-tei
Kaohsiung offering teppanyaki, Western cuisine and kaiseki prepared by a
dedicated culinary team from Japan. Designed by architect Hashimoto Yukio, the
restaurant reflects the Japanese concept of yūgen through refined aesthetics and
subtle detail. Additional venues include Dassai Bar, featuring the full range
of Junmai Daiginjo sake from Yamaguchi Prefecture and New York, and the In-Jade
Lounge, which transitions from breakfast and afternoon tea to an evening bar
with a curated gin selection.
Art-led discovery and immersive experiences
A hallmark of The Luxury Collection, Destination
Discoveries at THE AMNIS include scheduled guided journeys to the nearby ALIEN
Art Centre. As the only hotel in Taiwan with an art initiative curated in
partnership with this independent institution, THE AMNIS offers guests rare
access to one of Kaohsiung’s most influential creative spaces. Originally built
in 1967 as a dormitory and transformed in 2018 into a contemporary art museum,
the center stands at the foot of Shoushan and enriches each stay through a dialogue
between history, creativity and place.
Within the hotel, a curated art collection, including
selected works by the hotel’s founder, encourages moments of reflection. Daily
Epicurean Moments introduce guests to local rhythms through rotating delicacies
such as white sugar mochi, sailfish balls or ginger tomato. Weekly signature
experiences include Whispers of Water, a guided sensory journey exploring
water, sound and light, and Seeking Light, Embracing the Sea, a ferry excursion
highlighting Kaohsiung’s relationship with sea, harbor and mountains.
