The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has
welcomed Meliá Hotels International as a new Global Member, strengthening its
representation of major players across the global hospitality industry.
Founded in Mallorca, Spain, in 1956, Meliá Hotels
International has grown into one of the world’s leading hotel companies. Today,
the group operates more than 400 hotels in 46 countries and manages a portfolio
of nine brands serving both leisure and business travellers.
Global Hospitality Group with Strong International
Presence
Headquartered in Palma de Mallorca, Meliá has built
its reputation on more than seven decades of experience in the tourism sector.
Its portfolio includes brands such as Gran Meliá Hotels & Resorts, ME by
Meliá, Paradisus by Meliá, Meliá Hotels & Resorts and INNSiDE by Meliá.
The company’s growth strategy is centred on
innovation, sustainability and a strong focus on guest experience. This
approach has helped position Meliá among the leading international hospitality
groups while supporting its continued expansion in key markets worldwide.
Commitment to Sustainable Tourism
Meliá has also established itself as a prominent
advocate of responsible tourism. The company has been recognised by S&P
Global as Europe’s most sustainable hotel company and continues to pursue
initiatives focused on environmental protection, social responsibility and
digital transformation.
Through these efforts, the group aims to create
long-term value for stakeholders while responding to changing traveller
expectations and industry challenges.
WTTC Highlights Meliá’s Leadership Role
Gloria Guevara, President and CEO of WTTC, said the
addition of Meliá strengthens the organisation’s global membership network and
its efforts to advance sustainable tourism.
“We are proud to welcome Meliá Hotels International to
WTTC. As a company rooted in Mediterranean hospitality yet operating across 46
countries, Meliá exemplifies how global scale can be successfully combined with
a deep commitment to sustainability, community impact, and authentic guest
experiences. Their long-standing leadership in responsible tourism, combined
with a clear focus on innovation and talent, makes them a valuable voice within
our global membership.
We look forward to working closely with Meliá to
accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient
sector, while continuing to demonstrate the transformative power of Travel
& Tourism as a driver of economic growth and cultural connection
worldwide.”
Shared Vision for the Future of Tourism
Gabriel Escarrer, Chairman and CEO of Meliá Hotels
International, emphasised the importance of industry collaboration in
addressing future challenges and opportunities.
“As one of the leaders in the leisure hospitality
sector, with 70 years of experience in the industry, Meliá has been an active
participant in the major transformations the sector has undergone. Throughout
this journey, we have learned the importance of coming together to achieve more
ambitious goals and to drive the essential public-private collaboration from
within the private tourism sector.
We also believe in the power and commitment of private
companies to make a positive impact on society and the environment. In this
context, the WTTC undoubtedly represents an indispensable platform for
knowledge and for guiding the enhancement of tourism policies, supporting the
transition towards a more profitable, sustainable, and globally influential
future for our industry.”
Strengthening Global Industry Cooperation
The new membership reflects a shared commitment to
advancing sustainable growth, innovation and resilience across the travel and
tourism sector. By joining WTTC’s global network, Meliá Hotels International
will contribute its expertise and experience to discussions shaping the future
of international tourism while supporting efforts to strengthen cooperation
between industry leaders and policymakers worldwide.
