IHG Hotels & Resorts is expanding its luxury
portfolio in Portugal with the signing of InterContinental Vilamoura – Algarve.
Developed in partnership with HDP Algarve SA, the hotel will become the fourth
InterContinental property in Portugal and further strengthen IHG's Luxury &
Lifestyle portfolio in the country.
The hotel is scheduled to open in April 2027 following
a comprehensive renovation and rebranding of the existing Crowne Plaza
Vilamoura.
Luxury resort in a prime Algarve location
The future InterContinental Vilamoura – Algarve will
offer 323 guest rooms, several restaurants and bars, spa and wellness
facilities, extensive leisure amenities and flexible meeting and event spaces.
Located close to Vilamoura Marina, Praia de Vilamoura
and several renowned golf courses, the hotel is designed to attract both
international leisure travellers and the growing premium meetings and events
market.
“We are delighted to sign InterContinental Vilamoura –
Algarve, reinforcing our commitment to growing our luxury portfolio in
Portugal. Vilamoura is one of Portugal’s most established and dynamic luxury
resort destinations, and this signing reflects both strong owner confidence in
the market and the continued demand for world-class luxury hospitality
experiences under the InterContinental brand,” said Willemijn Geels, Vice
President, Development, Europe, IHG Hotels & Resorts.
“It is especially rewarding to enter into this project
alongside our valued long-term partners, HDP Algarve SA. This is a significant
project and we look forward to welcoming guests to what promises to be an
extraordinary InterContinental experience in the heart of the Algarve.”
Long-standing partnership continues
HDP Algarve SA described the project as a major step
in repositioning one of Vilamoura's landmark hotels within the luxury segment.
“We are proud to deepen our long-standing relationship
with IHG through the repositioning of this landmark resort to an
InterContinental property. This transformation aligns with our vision to
elevate the hotel’s offering and deliver an exceptional luxury experience that
reflects the evolving profile of Vilamoura and the wider Algarve,” said Mario
Vasco Pereira, Chairman of HDP Algarve SA.
Portugal remains a strategic growth market
IHG says Portugal continues to be one of its
fastest-growing markets in Southern Europe, supported by strong year-round
leisure demand and increasing city-break travel.
The signing forms part of the group's strategy to
expand its Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio, which already includes properties
such as InterContinental Cascais-Estoril, Hotel Indigo Albufeira, Kimpton
Atlântico Algarve and Six Senses Douro Valley.
InterContinental Vilamoura – Algarve will join IHG's
Luxury & Lifestyle division, which currently comprises more than 595
operating hotels and 392 properties in development worldwide. Across Europe,
the InterContinental brand now includes 34 hotels, with a further nine projects
in the pipeline.
This year, InterContinental also marks its 80th
anniversary as one of the world's leading luxury hotel brands.
