Ryanair slashes Berlin capacity by 20% on 'sky-high costs'

Ryanair announced Tuesday a 20% capacity cut at Berlin Brandenburg airport as authorities failed to reduce "its sky-high access costs."

"These cuts will see Ryanair’s based aircraft at Berlin reduced from 9 to 7, resulting in the loss of 750,000 seats and 6 routes (Brussels, Chania, Kaunas, Krakow, Luxembourg, Riga)," Europe's ultra-low cost airline said in a statement on Tuesday.

Its capacity will be shifted to other EU countries such as Italy, Poland and Spain, the airline said.

Ryanair said in a statement that the move followed several warnings that Germany would lose another 10% of Ryanair’s German capacity or 1.5 million seats for next summer if the government does not reverse the 24% hike in Aviation Tax.
