Lufthansa Group and trade union Verdi have reached a collective bargaining agreement overing more than 20,000 ground staff in Germany – nearly one-fifth of the entire Lufthansa Group wcorkforce. Under the agreement, which has a minimum term of more than two years, pay increases totaling 4.6 percent are planned, benefiting employees of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, Lufthansa Cargo, and Lufthansa Technik amongst others. In addition, further agreements were reached, including safeguards for station employees in Germany.
Michael Niggemann, Member of the Executive Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG responsible for Human Resources and Legal Affairs, says:
“This agreement sends a clear message in times of geopolitical crises and their resulting impact on the global economy: We are a responsible employer for our employees. Furthermore, the long-term nature of the agreement guarantees reliability. This provides a solid foundation for continuing to invest in the Lufthansa Group and thus also in the future of our employees.
After challenging negotiations, we succeeded in reaching a good compromise together at the negotiating table – without industrial action and without burdens - to our customers or additional economic disruptions. This was only possible because both sides were aware of their collective bargaining responsibilities toward the Lufthansa Group and there was a shared commitment to reaching an agreement. With this understanding as a foundation, we have agreed that we also intend to coordinate crisis measures in terms of safeguarding jobs, should the impact of the geopolitical conflicts on the Lufthansa Group intensify.”
The conclusion of the collective bargaining agreement is subject to approval by the relevant committees.
