Borussia Dortmund and Eurowings will continue to
fly side by side: This year's Champions League finalist and Germany's largest
leisure airline are extending their long-standing partnership (since 2016) for
another two years.
A key component of the contract extension is a
newly designed Airbus A320 aircraft in Borussia Dortmund's club colours.
Starting next season, it will accompany the Black & Yellows to numerous
away matches in the UEFA Champions League and the Bundesliga and bring them
home again. The so-called ‘team airbus 2.0’ is set to return to the Eurowings
fleet at the start of 2025: just in time for the BVB professionals' next
assault on Europe's football throne – and then in a new, exciting design.
The first version of the team airbus, which
celebrated its premiere in July 2016, attracted attention and caused a furor
far beyond the football scene. The BVB airbus, completely decked out in black
and yellow, was a real highlight every time it arrived at an airport – and at
times was the most photographed aircraft in Europe. A ‘club change’ of the jet
from Eurowings to the Lufthansa fleet required a new livery at the end of 2022
– and thus a temporary break for the team Airbus.
Nevertheless, BVB and Eurowings remained in the air
together: Eurowings was the first airline in the world to dedicate its own
aircraft to football fans in 2022: the fan airbus – an A320 jet in a special
black and yellow livery - has been flying BVB fans to all sporting destinations
in Europe ever since. BVB fans were actively involved in the design of the fan
airbus in advance. They had a say in deciding which favourite moments and
personalities from BVB's history should be immortalised on the aircraft.
“BVB and Eurowings – it's a perfect match,” says
Eurowings CEO Jens Bischof. “Just like Borussia, Eurowings also has its roots
in Dortmund. We share the sporting ambition of wanting to be among the best in
our field throughout Europe. And both partners are now among the most emotional
and popular brands in their industry. We are therefore all the more pleased to
be able to continue to support and inspire the Borussia Dortmund success
story.”
BVB Managing Director Carsten Cramer explains: “We
are delighted to have extended our long-standing partnership. The ‘team airbus
2.0’ will not only take our professionals to Bundesliga and Champions League
matches from the coming season, but will also be a popular photo motif for fans
across Europe, just like its predecessor.”
The partnership with the BVB women, which has been
in place since 2022, is also being extended. Eurowings will thus continue to
act as a training and warm-up wear partner for the women's teams on their way
to the top.
